Amy Poole, a 22-year-old mother, was so excited when doctors informed her that she was going to give birth to another child. However, 20 weeks into the pregnancy, Poole was shocked to find out that her son Ollie had a development complication in which “unexpected soft tissue” grew into his nose.
It turns out that Ollie’s skull had not formed properly, causing an encephalocele, which is an opening in the upper half of the skull. As a result, Ollie was born with an inflated nose because parts of his brain had grown through that opening.
When asked, Poole would not change a single thing about her baby boy. She tells The Mirror, “To me, Ollie is perfect. He is my real-life Pinocchio and I couldn’t be prouder of him.”
Some individuals have insulted and teased Poole and Ollie for Ollie’s ‘strange’ appearance.
In November 2014, Ollie had surgery to correct some of the issues with his facial deformation. While his nose is still abnormally big, the toddler is healthy. That’s all Poole cares about!
